What is Volumetric Weight?

Volumetric weight (also known as dimensional weight or DIM weight) is a pricing technique used by international courier companies like DHL, FedEx, and UPS when shipping to Hong Kong. It reflects the amount of space a package occupies in relation to its actual weight.

Why Do Couriers Use Volumetric Weight?

Transport vehicles have limited space. Light but bulky packages take up valuable cargo space that could be used for heavier items. Volumetric weight ensures fair pricing by accounting for both the space used and the actual weight of shipments.

Chargeable Weight

When shipping from Delhi to Hong Kong, courier companies will charge you based on the higher value between your actual weight and volumetric weight. This is called the "chargeable weight" or "billable weight."
